Special Awards

We are looking for special award sponsors for the 2010-2011 Idaho Regional Competition.  Teachers and parents express how much they appreciate the special awards at the competition since they give students additional opportunities to win recognition even if they are not one of the top 5 teams at the regional competition.

Here is how the Special Awards work:
If a firm, professional society, or other organization makes a donation to the Idaho Future City Competition at the $300 or higher level, they get to sponsor a special award.  The sponsors let us know the name and the criteria for the award as well as provide judges to evaluate the models and interview the students.  A representative from the sponsor will present the award at the awards ceremony.

Most Innovative Design Of Infrastructure Systems

Criteria:  City design that accommodates the most innovative systems (i.e. transportation, water, wastewater) for a community.
Sponsor:  American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Southern Idaho Section

Most Sustainable Use of Existing Resources

Criteria:  Best use of existing resources in creating a sustainable City.
Sponsor:  Boise State University, College of Engineering

Best Future City Project Plan

Criteria:  Team that developed a clear statement of their project requirements such as list of deliverables, project budget and schedule, and anticipated, prepared for and addressed project challenges.

Most Innovative Uses Of Aggregates In Design

Criteria:  City design with the most innovative and effective uses of crushed stone, sand, and/or gravel.

Best Futuristic City

Criteria:  City design with the best use of futuristic engineering concepts into city's communication, energy and transportation systems.

Most Innovative Solutions for Stormwater, Water & Wastewater to Reduce Environmental Impact in Urban Setting

Criteria:  City design that provided the best management of its water resources including use of innovative and sustainablle storm water, potable water and wastewater design that incorporates new technologies and sustainable methods..

Best Protection of the Public's Safety and Welfare through Competent and Ethical Engineering Practices

Criteria:  Future City that encourages and enforces engineering practice standards and a code of ethics..

Best Communications System

Criteria:  City design with strategic placement of a communications system that is both efficient and accurate.

Best Constructable Design

Criteria:  The City design that has the best fit to existing topography with the least impact to native vegetation.  The team should have a plan for the sequence of construction and a plan for post construction mapping.

Accessible City Design

Criteria:  Most Accessible Design for people wit disabilities, the elderly and others with mobility impairments.  Design that accommodates the most innovative systems (i.e. transportation, public rights of way, accessible services) for a community.

Best Incorporation of Pedestrian Friendly and Vehicle Transportation Design

Criteria:  City design that incorporates the most innovative way of incorporating pedestrian friendly design and creative transportation system design.

Criteria:  City with the most creative transportation system design that allows both mobility and transport of goods and services.

Criteria:  City design with the most creative power generation and layout to meet the needs of its citizens and industry.

Criteria:  City design that best incorporates telemedicine in the delivery of patient care services.

Criteria:  City design that incorporates the most creative use of alternative energy..

Criteria:  City with the most strategic placement of residential zones considering infrastructure and quality of life.
